William C. Allen, M.D., is professor emeritus of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia and regarded as the father of sports medicine at MU. He also served as chairman of the department.
Dr. Allen is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and a graduate of the University of Chicago. He served as a resident physician at Stanford University and completed fellowship training at Case Western Reserve University. His clinical interests include the hip, knee, shoulder, sports-related injuries, arthritis and cancer, and he is currently conducting research in bioabsorbable materials, intra-articular meniscal suture devices and biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system.

Kevin M. Marberry, M.D., is assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery. He acts as the co-director of the residency program and director of clinical research with the Comparative Orthopaedic Laboratory. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle. Dr. Marberry is a native of mid-Missouri and a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine where he also completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis where he worked as an assistant team physician for the Indianapolis Colts. His research interests include articular cartilage restoration and treatment of injuries in athletes.

Matthew J. Smith, M.D., is assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery. He specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery. A graduate of Creighton University, he completed his fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis. He also completed fellowship training at the Rothman Institute, Thomas Jefferson Medical College, Philadelpha, Pa. In Philadelphia, he worked with atheles from the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Baseball team, and the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. His research interests include techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine.

Richard A. White, M.D., is assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. A graduate of the University of Arkansas College of Medicine, Dr. White completed his residency at University of Missouri Health Care, Columbia, and Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis. He also completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Baylor Sports Medicine Institute, where he worked with athletes from the Houston Texans National Football League team, the Houston Astros baseball team and the University of Houston.
